Bike Cooking in London with Snow Peak IGT

Hello, my name is Felix, and this year in my free time I have had the pleasure of playing around and streamlining my Cargo Bike IGT set up. This has all been made possible with the release of the Snow Peak collapsible 2-unit Collapsible IGT frame and its relationship to the  surprising perfect geometry of the cargo rack on my Omnium Cargo Mini.

The mechanism of the Snow Peak collapsible 2-unit IGT frame allows me to easily disassemble it, and when folded its compact nature allows me to strap it onto
the rear rack of my cargo bike. Something that would have been impossible with the original IGT frame. This lets me cycle and cook with friends and family, while searching for nature within the urban environments of London where I live.

My initial tests started last summer with a Flat Burner strapped to the cargo rack of my bike with its standalone legs. This allowed me to cycle to a supermarket, purchase some ingredients then cycle to my brother’s office and cook him a hotpot on his lunch break as seen in the video below.

I enjoyed this adventure as it got me thinking about how I could expand and take this idea further and into nature.

Whilst playing around in my flat I discovered that the height of the cargo rack on my bike (with a simple wedge under the front wheel) identically matches the height of our 660 legs. Combining the cargo rack with an inverted IGT Stainless Steel Box Hanger and a Voile Strap, the bike becomes a set of legs for an IGT frame to be attached, making it the perfect set up for some serious bike cooking.

On the 2nd of March, with a bike loaded with gear, some fresh produce from my local market and the crisp Spring sun I and my friend Billy ventured through London to find somewhere fun to cook an extravagant meal. Settling for an underpass juxtaposed by woodland, we cooked a meal consisting of black
pudding and tomato bruschetta on homemade bread, seared seabass with beans and fennel and some prawns. Finishing it all off with a coffee. This proved to be a real success, and I was chuffed spending an afternoon relaxing and eating with my friend among the trees. To me this trip summed up what I love most about Snow Peak, using it as a tool to gather and take time to enjoy those simple moments with friends and family.

For round 2, crab linguine was on the menu. A simpler set up consisted of just one flat Burner and one bamboo insert in the 2-unit collapsible IGT Table. Although they are quite large, I couldn’t compromise on the comfort that is granted by the Red Folding Chair so they came too. A cycle down by the river led us to the perfect place to cook, with the sound of birdsong accompanying us as we ate overlooking swans and rowers and a few interested passers-by complementing us on our feast.

The Snow Peak Hammer came in handy for breaking the crab’s shell and one Snow Peak titanium chopstick for the dispatch.

Throughout the year I have been able to test out all sorts of different cooking set ups, whether that’s with friends or on my own. I have really enjoyed the trial and error of it all, taking time to fine-tune what works for me and what gives me the most satisfaction.

I think that what I have found is that using Snow Peak’s brilliantly designed gear I have been able to combine two of my loves, cycling and cooking. And what’s more I have been able to do all of this without compromising on the quality of my set up. I look forward to all my future adventures and can’t wait for what’s next. Perhaps a full English cooked on my bike at Westminster Bridge?
